Pakistan Plans to Utilize Surplus Electricity for Bitcoin Mining and AI Infrastructure

The Pakistani government has announced plans to allocate a portion of its surplus electricity to Bitcoin mining and the operation of AI data centers. This initiative comes as global demand for blockchain technology and artificial intelligence continues to surge, and Pakistan seeks new engines for economic growth.

An advisor to the finance minister stated that negotiations are currently underway with several mining companies. The government aims to coordinate details such as power distribution, infrastructure development, and regulatory frameworks in the near future.

Pakistan experiences significant seasonal imbalances in electricity supply and demand, often leading to wasted surplus power in certain regions. In response, the government appears to be shifting its strategy toward monetizing surplus energy while simultaneously strengthening the country’s digital economy infrastructure.
